Canadian Beer on tap in Buffalo?
We stopped by Cole's after an emotioanl visit for my mom at Roswell Park. We were met by a sweet hostess that let us sit a table for 5 (GASP) when there were only 3 of us. The first thing the waitress said was ONLY 3? REALLY??? When we inquired about having a pitcher of Canadian Beer- she roughly threw the beer tome at us. All we wanted was a nice Canandian beer on tap- Labatts/Canadian- wew were not picky. She became even more huffy when we asked again - retorted with- It's listed inthhe menu- read it. We explained it was not clear. She even went so far as to ask if we were from Buffalo- which we are- and before we could answer that she pontificated on how absolutely NO bar in Buffalo would serve any type of Canadian beer on tap- no one in Buffalo would drink it. (Sure now and that is why Labatts decided to have their American headquarters here.) I quit at that point and ordered water, as did my dad. Mom ordered iced tea. The food came out quite a while later. It served the purpose- edible, not memorable in any way. But when it was time to give us the bill, our waitress turned on all the charm! Too bad she couldn't have shown us that kindness earlier. We sure could have used it that day. I remmeber when Cole's was a place to get good food, and good beer- not surliness from a malcontent.

For a sports bar....
It was really hard to watch the game! It has long sacrificed it's sports bar credentials to become hip bar. I suppose I should've known better than to go on a Friday night.
Pros: Clams were good
Cons: Really cold!

Coles-Best of Buffalo
Coles is more than just a neighborhood pub, it is a lively mix of college kids, young couples, families and older couples. Despite the wide range of groups that visit it somehow all mingles into a perfect scene. At the bar you will find the regulars discussing sports and politics all while being served by bartenders that not only know what they are doing, but that you know you will find behind the bar every time you come. The restaurant itself mixes in well with the bar area as there are three eating ares, within the bar, the main room, and the patio. Although the noise level can be a high, it creates a fun, down-to-earth atmosphere, perfect for friends/family and for dates alike. The food is outstanding, you can feel safe ordering anything off the menu, although the kobe beef burgers are my personal favorite. The chicken finger wraps are a very close 2nd. The fries are the perfect mix of crispy outside with a hot, mashy center. Although the beer prices can be a bit high, rest assure that not only are the beers more than just your average tap/bottle selections, but one of bufalos largest and best micro and specialty beer selections. You would be hard-pressed to find a more in-depth selection of beer.
To be fair, There are items that can be improved, as the wait/hostess staff is not always the best, save for a few veteran waitresses. The wait time for a table on a busy night can be long, but the benefit is the great bar that you can wait at. On a nice evening the chance of getting a table on the patio is extremely hard, sometimes I have found that certain "regulars" will be given preferance over others. This can be annoying, yet understanding as Coles has been around long enough to have established regulars and thus makes you long to be one!
Pros: kobe burgers, fries, chicken finger wraps, BEER, bartenders
Cons: long-waits for the patio, hostesses/waitresses need work

Great Place for family and friends
Coles never disappoints me or my family. Its a great place to meet with friends and have a bite to eat! The food is always consistantly good. the staff is very cordial always.

No desserts?
Food was decent but they ran out of desserts... truth! We were there for a birthday celebration and they had nothing to offer! Waiter was slow, food was pretty good. Would eat there again but probably only for lunch.

Tried something new
My wife and I went to Coles over this past weekend and we loved the experience. The food was great and we enjoy the atmosphere at Coles. We will definantly be stopping in again and bringing some of our out-of-town guests with us

On my recent visit, 6/2/08, the food was great. I had the pot-roast sandwich and my friend had one of their cheeseburgers. Also, the atmosphere was very nice. They have a room that is open to an outside patio. I am looking forward to a return visit!

excellent wings
I love Coles' wings, burgers & sandwiches, but the service is always so slow. It took 15minutes to get our first beer & then we actually went to the bar for our second one (before our meal came) b/c the waitress never came back.
If they hire a couple more servers that place would be 5 stars!!

Great Value, No Rushing!
What a nice change of pace from those nasty chain restaurants!
I've never had anything that was fabulously good! All the food is a good value, and tasty, too! I especially love the black and white crusted tuna salad. Yum!
The service is key here. They NEVER rush you. You always have time to chew your food and chat. I've never been interrupted with one of those stupid, "are you still working on this?" comments. And I've never felt like I should hurry up and get out of the seat so they could turn over the table. Stay and finish your dinner, have drinks and dessert, or just chat a while. They don't mind!
Pros: Good food, no rushing
Cons: sometimes they can take a mite bit too long.

Not-so-good service
Their service is really pretty awful. I was there just the other night and there were fruit flies all over everything- GROSS! Otherwise their food is pretty good and they have an excellent beer/wine selection.
Pros: Cheap, Great Bar Menu

Always a favorite
We always love this place. The menu is extensive,but I almost always order the General's chicken sandwich. The kobe burger is a treat too. Brunch is yummy and relaxing and you can't beat the beer selection.
