mmmmm.... garlic!
If you like middle-eastern cuisine, you will like this little place. It's just a little "hole-in-the-wall" sort of place - clean, a few tables (insid and outdoors) with a master of all things falafel, hummos, baba ghanouj, grape-leave etc. in the kitchen.
Pros: cheap. good.
Cons: ... a little heavy on the garlic.

The Washington Market
461 Ellicott Street
Buffalo, NY 14203
An Important Addition to DownTown Buffalo
We must support the Washington Market, not only because of its importance to the revitalization of Downtown Buffalo's upscale residential development but because it is worthy of support.
If you like Gourmet deli, this is the best example in downtown. It's not Zabar's but it is very good. Good sandwiches, a small but upscale grocery, top-of-the-line produce and Dicamillo baked goods all make the Washington Market a great place for lunch or to stock your mini-fridge.

Cheap...Quick Sandwiches and more..
The family that owns Holley Farms also works there (Debbie, Mark and Nick) and are accomodating and friendly. This is definately a place where the staff is NOT uptight about anything. Sandwiches at lunch are cheap and good. Plus, they have a little grocery store for all kinds of other stuff.
Pros: cheap, quick, good
Cons: Sometimes the line gets long.

Fogo de Chao
661 N. LaSalle St
Chicago, IL 60610
Brazilian Churasco - Really Different
Fogo de Chao is always crowded - and for good reason. This price fixed restaurant ($40 per person) includes a hig salad bar that shouldn't be called a salad bar- it's full of all kinds of incredible delicacies arranged artfully. Then, the staff brings lots of little side dishes to your table (little sticky rolls, sauteed bananas, mashed potatoes with garlic, etc.).
This is where the action starts - waiters dressed up in gaucho outfits run over to your table with huge skewers of lamb, chicken, beef, etc and slice it right onto your plate... and they keep coming back until you tell them to stop.
The food is really good, and the experience is unique. HIGHLY RECCOMENDED.
Make reservations.
Pros: Really different
Cons: crowded. Expensive

nice service
The owner of this sub shop is a perfectionist and she is very friendly. They use better-than-average meats -the prices are a tad higher than elsewhere, but so is the quality.
I like the fish sub... very good.
This is located in the Market Arcade building - a great historical architecture treat in dowtown Buffalo.
Pros: good quality and very friendly
Cons: overpriced cookies
